Opening Prayer
It is laudable, before saying any Hour or group of Hours, to say the Church's indulgenced opening and dedicatory prayer, called The Aperi Domine. Also, in closing any Hour or group of Hours, to say the indulgenced act of atonement for failings committed during the Office -- The Sacrosanctae.

THE APERI DOMINE
(Or Good Intention Before the Office)
Kneeling - All make the little sign of the Cross on the lips and say:
Open thou my mouth, O Lord, to bless Thy holy name; * cleanse my heart also from all vain, perverse, and distracting thoughts; * enlighten my understanding, inflame my affections; * that I may recite this Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary with worthy attention and devotion, and may deserve to be heard in the sight of Thy Divine majesty. * Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Lord, I offer these Hours unto Thee, * in union with that Divine intention * wherewith Thou didst offer praises to God whilst Thou wast on earth.
